In December 2010, Ms. Olive Miller launched her Little Mans Million appeal, to raise funds for the completion of The Pines nursing home facility currently under construction.

The need for a new facility arose as a result of the severe damages to the existing facility after Hurricane Ivan. The decision to build a modern facility that complies with National Standards was taken and Phase 1 got underway in June 2010.

Completion of Phase 1 has resulted in a finished outer shell, roof and windows. Phase 2 which includes the fitting of the interior of the building, is about to commence .

The total cost of the project is $6.9 million. The Pines Retirement Home is a non-profit organization that depends on fundraising and donations. A further $2 million dollars is required to be raised to ensure the completion of the project.

Ms. Millers’ has been associated with The Pines Retirement Home since its inception in 1983, still serves on the Board, and is an avid supporter of the facility.

Ms Millers objective is to raise one million dollars by obtaining pledges from the local community. The idea is to encompass people who are keen to donate varying amounts of money, to help the elderly be taken care of, with love and dignity.
